It is indeed shocking these days to witness the spectacle of breathtaking spin and mendacity emanating from leaders of nations – Zimbabwe, Sudan, Burma, China, even the USA and the UK, spinning their version of events, political, religious and humanitarian disasters, in front of international organizations and televised around the world.
Healthcare has also become a political football; the letters pages of PH are regularly devoted to updating readers about events, laws and developments with CODEX, The EU Directives on Vitamin, Mineral and Herbal Supplements, the side effects of drugs such as statins which, it is being proposed in the UK, may be routinely prescribed even to healthy individuals over the age of 50. Exceedingly alarming developments are the proposed Canadian Bills C-51, C-52 and the Drugs Class Natural Health Regulations, which have been introduced into the Canadian House of Commons (see letters pages 44-45).

If Bill C-51 gets passed and becomes law and the Drug Class Natural Health Products Regulations obtain legislative authority, more than 70% of Canada’s Natural Health Products will be removed from Canadians, while many others will be available by prescription only. Three existing examples of ‘Prescription Dietary Food Supplements’ are larger doses of Vitamins A and D and L-Carnitine.

Bill C-51 will virtually shut down the Natural Health Industry, denying Canadians access to a wide range of non-drug, nutrient rich plant-based medicines, devices, services and override the Rule of Law, Implied Bill of Rights and other constitutional fundamental rights, freedoms and liberties of Canadians.

More than 70% of Canadians now depend on natural products to maintain or enhance their health because they offer a safer and more effective alternative to high-risk pharmaceutical drugs. Bill C-51 will ‘criminalize’ Natural Health Products including vitamins, minerals, herbs, greens drinks, carrot juice and many ‘Therapeutic’ and ‘Healthy Foods’.

The new law goes so far as to make a criminal of a person who would give another person an ‘unapproved’ amount of garlic on the recommendation that it would improve that person’s health.

If Bills C-51 and 52 becomes criminal law, under its Sec. 2, agents of the Canadian government, a foreign government, or an organization of states can, without Court oversight and/or access to any Early Dispute Resolution Review of decision process:

•    Enter private property without a warrant;
•    Confiscate property at their discretion;
•    Dispose of property at their discretion;
•    Not reimburse you for your losses;
•    Seize your bank accounts without a warrant;
•    Charge owners shipping and storage charges for seized property;
•    Store your property indefinitely;
•    Levy fines of up to $5,000,000.00 and/or seek 2 years in jail per charge;
•    Force expensive and complicated licenses on all businesses and products;
•    Close the borders to all commercial and personal use imports.

It has become perceived wisdom that we strive to live each day to the full, as though it might be our last; easier said than done, although perhaps we ought to take more heed of such advice. Certainly this was borne home to me when I was shocked to hear of the recent sudden death, at a relatively young age, of Graham Whitehead, pioneer in the Centre for Implosion Research, Vortex Water Energizers and Healing Harmonisers. Imagine a car accident where you are hit so hard that your heart is instantly ripped across your chest, bones shattering and snapping in an instant, lungs collapsing, losing consciousness and pints of blood, life forces diminishing, the unimaginable pain, the paralysis, the chemically induced coma for two months, waking up in a room and not knowing where you are and how you arrived there, the feeling of being told that your life was over, and the indescribable agony of it all. Your doctor comes into your room everyday to check on your status and to let you know that you are one of the lucky ones. You don’t understand what they mean, and ironically the next moment a stretcher is rolled by your room with a person in a body bag on their way to the morgue and now you understand exactly what the doctor meant.

We need to be cognisant of our mortality, which may arrive unexpectedly, and fight the fight and live every day to the fullest.
